Showcasing the Sustainable Route in Davos Demonstrated That Decarbonization Is Already a Reality

by Erasmo Carlos Battistella

Participating in the World Economic Forum in Davos gave me the opportunity to share a message that I believe is essential to the future of the energy transition: we are no longer talking about concepts, promises, or projects for the decades ahead. We are talking about solutions that are already delivering results today. That was precisely the message we brought to Brazil House through the Sustainable Route to COP30 initiative, developed by Be8 in partnership with Mercedes-Benz do Brasil. The project was designed to demonstrate, through audited data and real-world operations, how advanced biofuels can immediately contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

The Sustainable Route to COP30 covered more than 4,000 kilometers between Rio Grande do Sul and Belém using two Mercedes-Benz trucks and two buses powered by Be8 BeVant®. The initiative was created to measure, with complete transparency and traceability, the difference between conventional diesel and our advanced biofuel under real operating conditions. The results were highly significant. Measurements audited by the Mauá Institute of Technology demonstrated greenhouse gas emissions reductions of up to 99% on a tank-to-wheel basis, confirming the remarkable decarbonization potential of this technology.

Presenting this experience in Davos carried special significance because the World Economic Forum brings together many of the world’s foremost business, political, and economic leaders. In an environment dedicated to shaping the future of sustainable development, we had the opportunity to showcase a Brazilian solution, developed in Brazil and validated through real-world applications. More than presenting data, we demonstrated that the energy transition can move forward without complex structural changes, fleet replacements, or compromises to operational efficiency. This is one of the greatest advantages of advanced biofuels: they deliver immediate environmental benefits while leveraging existing infrastructure.

I firmly believe that Brazil has a unique opportunity to become a global leader in the renewable energy transition. We have the technology, industrial capabilities, renewable feedstocks, and expertise needed to drive this transformation. The Sustainable Route to COP30 demonstrated that innovation, science, and measurable results can go hand in hand. By sharing this experience in Davos, we reinforced a conviction that continues to guide Be8’s mission: decarbonization is not a distant goal. It is already happening today, and Brazil is well positioned to be one of the leading forces shaping the new low-carbon economy.
