One of the defining characteristics of the energy transition is its ability to transform environmental challenges into new opportunities for economic development. That is exactly what we are building in Passo Fundo, Rio Grande do Sul. Through Be8’s new ethanol plant, we will produce not only renewable fuels and ingredients for the food industry, but also capture and create value from the biogenic CO₂ generated during the production process. To make this initiative possible, we have established a strategic partnership to commercialize this renewable carbon, further strengthening the circular economy principles that guide the company’s investments.
Biogenic CO₂ differs from fossil-based carbon. It is generated from renewable feedstocks, such as the grains that will be processed at our facility, and can be reused across a wide range of industrial applications. As a result, what was once a byproduct of the production process becomes a valuable input for new value chains, increasing resource efficiency while reducing waste. This approach is part of Be8’s strategy to maximize the use of every input and continuously expand the value generated through renewable energy solutions.
The new Passo Fundo plant represents one of the most important projects in Be8’s history. In addition to producing ethanol, it will manufacture DDGs and vital wheat gluten, helping reduce imports while strengthening Brazil’s agribusiness value chain. The commercialization of biogenic CO₂ complements this integrated production ecosystem and demonstrates how innovation can create new revenue streams, stimulate investment, and enhance the competitiveness of Brazilian industry. It is a model fully aligned with global best practices in sustainability and industrial efficiency.
I firmly believe that this is how the future of the energy transition will be built: by integrating multiple renewable solutions within a single production ecosystem. The challenge is not simply to replace fossil fuels, but to develop complete value chains capable of generating economic, environmental, and social benefits. The Passo Fundo project embodies this long-term vision. We are creating an operation that brings together renewable energy, food production, innovation, and the circular economy, reinforcing Be8’s commitment to leading the energy transition and building an increasingly sustainable future for Brazil.
