In the new commercialization model for biodiesel in Brazil, BSBIOS customizes solution for distributors

by Erasmo Carlos Battistella

Five months after the implementation of the new commercialization system for biodiesel in Brazil, it is already possible to make a positive balance of the change adopted, which started on January 1st, 2022 and substituted the auctions.

Some initial obstacles were evident, such as the lack of time for a planned transition to a new system in which distributors contract and purchase directly from producers. An important challenge still remains, which is the issue involving ICMS (tax) compensation, since some States have not yet adopted the model proposed by the National Council on Fiscal Policy (CONFAZ).

In any case, we recognize that the market organized itself quickly, and met the demand without running out of product for a 10% blend (B10), since there was planned capacity for B14.

On the other hand, after these first months, we already celebrate the opportunity to build partnerships with more flexibility and that help the market to be more competitive. Producers and distributors now have a negotiation environment with more freedom to define customized strategies to optimize the process and create new logistics and product quality solutions, within product specifications, that represent less cost and more efficiency.

A good example of this new moment is a logistics solution we have just announced. Developed by the multimodal logistics company Norsul, this is a cabotage route for BSBIOS – the company’s first shipment of biodiesel to the Northeast with 100% neutralization of greenhouse gas emissions.

Our performance is also guided by the search for solutions that can improve the processes and reduce the environmental impacts caused by our operations. The choice of this modal with Norsul meets our strategic objectives of sustainability.

The journey made by the Taruca ship started at the Port of Paranaguá, in Paraná, and continued towards the Port of Suape, in Pernambuco. The transport lasted around 14 days and marked the debut of our operations in the Northeast region of Brazil.

In all, four million litres of biodiesel were transported, which left the plants in Marialva, Paraná, and will be supplied to three fuel distributors in the region. All the emissions from this modal were neutralised through the Norsul Carbon Neutral Programme, which has already neutralised more than 450,000 tonnes of CO2 since the project began in 2020.

The process for the creation of the new route took 90 days and counted on the integration of the teams from both companies working in partnership and finding in cabotage (navigation between ports of the same country or at short distances, within coastal waters) the best logistical and environmental solution for the transportation of cargo.

The new biodiesel commercialization model increases the level of efficiency and competitiveness in the sector, bringing opportunities for partnerships and customized solutions, which would not be feasible under the old auction system. It is in this direction that BSBIOS will seek even more competitiveness for its operations with its clients.

Parabéns a Norsul e a BSBios pela importante iniciativa. Levar biocombustível com uma embarcação que usa esse combustível, vem de encontro a necessidade de quanto antes aumentar a descarbonizacao no nosso meio ambiente.
