Be8 Advances the Use of Animal Fats to Accelerate Biodiesel Exports

by Erasmo Carlos Battistella

Diversifying the feedstocks used in biodiesel production is one of the most effective ways to enhance the industry’s competitiveness and sustainability. I have been pleased to see the growing use of animal fats in this process, a trend that strengthens the circular economy by converting byproducts from the production chain into high quality renewable energy. According to data from Brazil’s National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP), the use of this feedstock increased by 32.7% in the country between 2023 and 2025.

At Be8, we are making significant progress in this direction as well. Expanding the use of animal fats across our operations increases feedstock flexibility, lowers the carbon intensity of the fuels we produce, and creates new opportunities to serve international markets that are becoming increasingly demanding regarding environmental standards.

This progress reinforces a conviction I have held for many years: the energy transition must be driven by practical solutions that are available today and capable of delivering immediate impact. Using residual materials as feedstocks for biofuels demonstrates that economic development, innovation, and decarbonization can successfully advance together as part of the same strategy.
