National Biodiesel Conference in the USA, an event that inaugurates a new “Clean Fuel Era

by Erasmo Carlos Battistella

The past year has seen an impressive array of decarbonization efforts by companies and the US government in the areas of transportation and home heating. The common objective is to seek a better and cleaner future. The biodiesel and advanced biofuels industries (aviation biokerosene – SAF and renewable diesel – HVO) are fully committed to this goal and gathered at the National Biodiesel Conference & Expo 2022 in Las Vegas.

I had the honor to accompany this great event for another year. BSBIOS is the only Brazilian company that is a member of the National Biodiesel Board (NBB) and we were there with our commercial team. This is a very important moment for biofuels around the world and the event sheds light on the debate that is taking place in the United States and that we are experiencing on a daily basis in Brazil.

With biofuels, we are challenged to find real solutions to reduce emissions in global mobility, but at the same time, we are witnessing the decisions of some governments that seem to be going in the opposite direction, favoring fossil fuels.

The National Biodiesel Conference & Expo brings together stakeholders from across the chain to learn, do business and strategize on how to meet the growing demand for clean fuels amid rapid decarbonization efforts.

“This year, our industry celebrates its 30th anniversary, and with it we will formally announce an organizational name change that capitalizes on the connected energies of everyone in the industry working together for a clean fuel future,” said Donnell Rehagen, CEO of the NBB.

“The new name (cleanfuels.org) reflects the evolution and growth of demand for all the products we develop – biodiesel, renewable diesel and sustainable jet fuel. Our association represents the companies that are producing the most sustainable fuels on the planet. This new name will position us for growth in the clean energy ecosystem and we will continue to build on our long-standing role as the voice of this sector for markets, stakeholders and policymakers.”

The conference agenda allowed attendees to expand their knowledge of the industry and prepare for success in a rapidly changing world. The sessions addressed aspects of biodiesel, renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel in the context of the challenges of decarbonization, in addition to involving debates on the growing demand for raw materials, new expanding markets and the impacts of ESG management in the corporate world.
