Navegação Aliança Achieves a 99.41% Reduction in Emissions with Be8 BeVant®

by Erasmo Carlos Battistella

When discussing the energy transition, the focus often falls on road transportation, industry, or power generation. However, there is another essential mode of transport that plays a critical role in Brazil’s economy and must also advance on its decarbonization journey: inland waterway transportation. With this objective in mind, Be8 partnered with Navegação Aliança to conduct an important trial of Be8 BeVant® on the waterways of Rio Grande do Sul. The results demonstrated that it is possible to combine operational efficiency, reliability, and a substantial reduction in carbon emissions in freight transportation.

During the trial, Be8 BeVant® was used to power a vessel operating on a regular route along the inland waterways of Rio Grande do Sul. The evaluation confirmed a 99.41% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions compared with conventional fossil fuel. These results reinforce what we have advocated for years: decarbonization does not depend solely on future technologies. It can be accelerated through solutions that are already available today, capable of delivering immediate environmental benefits without requiring engine replacements or major operational modifications.

Most importantly, this project expands the potential applications of advanced biofuels in sectors that are strategic to the country’s competitiveness. Inland waterways play a vital role in Brazil’s logistics network, particularly for transporting high-volume cargo. Demonstrating that a commercial vessel can operate on a renewable fuel while maintaining performance and reliability is an important step toward accelerating the adoption of sustainable solutions throughout the logistics chain.

I firmly believe that initiatives like this highlight Brazil’s tremendous potential to lead the global energy transition. We have abundant renewable feedstocks, technical expertise, industrial capacity, and one of the world’s largest logistics networks. When companies come together to test, validate, and implement new solutions, we transform climate commitments into measurable results. Our work with Navegação Aliança is yet another demonstration that decarbonization is already underway and that advanced biofuels will play an increasingly important role in building a cleaner, more efficient, and more competitive economy.
