Diesel engine and vehicle manufacturers participated in the Vehicle Technology Showcase event at the National Biodiesel Conference, on January 18, 2022, and were unanimous in stating that clean fuels are a fundamental part of their technological development plans in the search for transport low carbon.
Ford, General Motors, Stellantis, FPT Industrial and many others currently encourage the use of B20 biodiesel blends in their diesel vehicles. B20 is a fuel blend that contains 20% biodiesel and 80% low sulfur diesel. However, forward-looking fleets coast-to-coast – including California, New York, Chicago, Madison, Washington, DC and beyond – are seeking higher blends of biodiesel, up to B100, to further reduce their carbon footprints.
Check out the statements of the participants:
“We are committed to innovation for a sustainable future and consider low carbon fuels such as biodiesel an important path to reducing CO2 while maintaining our commitment to our customers. John Deere fully supports the use of B20 biodiesel blends in all of our diesel equipment.”
Danan Dou, Manager of Advanced Technology and Innovation at John Deere.
“Cummins is committed to supporting the use of biodiesel and is an important part of our plans to reduce CO2 in commercial vehicle markets. In fact, almost all of our products are capable of using B20 biodiesel blends today, and we are working to support increased blending in the future.”
James Hopkins, Executive Director of Engine Business Strategy at Cummins, Inc.
“It is remarkable the level of biodiesel research being conducted by various equipment manufacturers in partnership with the Clean Fuels Alliance America and research institutions such as the National Renewable Energy Lab and others. OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) are already testing cooperatives on B20 and higher biodiesel blends on their future ultra-low emission diesel engine (ULEDE) platforms, as well as equipment for other markets that want low carbon fuels such as oceangoing ships, railroads and onshore gas turbines. with OEMs and we are doing what is necessary to remain an important part of the climate solution – now and in the future.”
Steve Howell, President of the ASTM Biodiesel Task Force
“Manufacturers have an exciting path to provide cleaner solutions that can achieve sustainability goals and meet our customers’ needs. We are delighted that biodiesel blends can help address this important challenge.”
Chris Walters, Head of Institutional Relations – North America, IVECO Group
