Be8 and the Government of Paraná confirm the Protocol of Intentions that makes investments in a soybean crusher possible

by Erasmo Carlos Battistella

Be8 and the Government of the State of Paraná signed a Memorandum of Intent last Wednesday (14/06) to enable investments in a Soy Crusher in Marialva, where we already have a biodiesel production unit. The new plant will have a processing capacity of 5,000 tons per day of soy to produce oil, meal and soy hulls.

The investment could reach R$ 1.5 billion, but this value will now be formatted in the stage following the signing of the protocol. The production will be destined to the feed industry and the oil will be raw material for the production of biodiesel. When it reaches full operating capacity, soy consumption will be 85,000 bags per day, mostly from Paraná suppliers.

“This important investment, in addition to boosting the economy of Marialva and the region even further, will place Paraná in a more prominent place in the production of biodiesel. We are becoming a reference in terms of sustainability and clean energy. These are more jobs and income for people from Paraná, respecting the environment and promoting the growth of our economy in a sustainable way.”

Carlos Massa Ratinho Junior, Governor of Paraná

“Be8 is contemplated in the competitive Paraná. Important investment for Paraná, for the city of Marialva, for the expansion of the operation that is already carried out here with great success and great impact on the municipality’s collection and on the generation of jobs, which is our objective.”

Ricardo Barros, Secretary of Industry and Commerce of Paraná

With this announcement, we are following our growth strategy in Brazil, expanding our structure in the biodiesel and food production chain, fulfilling our role of positively transforming the energy scenario and making sustainable deliveries for people, businesses and the planet, generating jobs and development for the country.

The new venture will encourage the creation of at least 100 direct jobs and approximately 2,000 indirect ones, in addition to the movement of around 1,200 jobs that will be generated from the beginning of the works and last for a construction period of at least 24 months. .

The strategic position of Crusher in the already existing biodiesel complex in Marialva is ideal to supply with more raw material (soybean oil) the growing market demand with the increase of the biodiesel mixture defined in 12% (B12) since April 2023 – and which should reach B15 by 2026. The company has just expanded the installed biofuel production capacity in the city for the sixth time, now by 15.4%, rising to 540 million liters per year. The Crusher project had been in the company’s planning for some time and we accelerated investments due to the resumption of mixing mandates.

The city also has a privileged location, on the one hand, favorable logistics to the Port of Paranaguá and, on the other, the supply of the Midwest region, which enhances the destination of bran for export and for the domestic market.

Structure

The project foresees the construction of a physical structure of 96,000 m² in an area that will house grain warehouses, a grain reception and processing plant of 20,000 tons per day, considering road and rail modes, and the 5,000-ton processing plant.

The unit already has authorization from the environmental agency for installation and the project is now in the phase of defining the industrial technology that will be used in production. Construction is expected to begin in the next six months.

The Crusher will have a system for treating residues from soy processing (proteinated), cooling towers, a biomass boiler park, a new transmission line and 138kV electric power substation, storage and shipment of soy bran by road and railway, connecting the unit to the port of Paranaguá.
