The new brand reinforces the company’s belief in the power of renewable energies as a transforming agent in the world, helping to create a greener and more sustainable planet. Be8 brings a new meaning of the “B” of BSBIOS, transforming it into the verb “to be”, in English, which means “ser/estar”. The visual identity adds action and movement that are the hallmarks of this new moment for the company. It also includes the number eight, which symbolizes infinity, originating from the circularity present in the company’s actions and strategies over the years.
To express all this in a visual identity, green was maintained as a legacy, but with a more contemporary and digital look, as well as in the choice of supporting colors. As for bringing a striking symbol, the idea of Present and Future being increasingly close was considered and Be8 to be an active part of this journey. The result is a global brand made to be assimilated in different countries, cultures and languages where Be8 operates.
Growth in 2022
The company has once again demonstrated its ability to outdo itself. In 2022, the business environment dealt with externalities that exerted strong pressure on results. Even so, the company was resilient and managed to increase its revenue. Be8 recorded consolidated revenues of BRL 9.6 billion, an increase of 9% compared to the previous year, and EBITDA totaled BRL 354 million, an increase of 12% over 2021.
There was an increase in revenues, which was due to the expansion of production capacity and the increase in prices subsequent to the appreciation of raw materials. With the production of 889,114 m³ of biodiesel, the company maintained leadership in volume produced in the country, with 14.24% of the sector’s market share.
The good numbers were achieved in a global context with high volatility in commodity prices and interest rate growth due to factors such as the war in Ukraine and the continuity of the Covid-19 pandemic. In addition, in Brazil, there was a decrease in the percentage of mandatory blending of biodiesel in diesel oil, which seriously affected the sector.
“A positive fact was the structural change in the biodiesel commercialization model, which came into force in 2022, with the replacement of public auctions by direct contracting between distributors and producers. In this new market dynamic, which grants more autonomy in the negotiation of commercial conditions, we are presenting a great performance”, highlighted Battistella.
Consumer market
In 2022, Be8 served customers in 13 Brazilian states: Alagoas, Espírito Santo, Goiás, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Minas Gerais, Paraná, Pernambuco, Rio Grande do Sul, Rio de Janeiro, Santa Catarina, São Paulo and Sergipe . In addition, it exports to 12 countries: South Africa, Bangladesh, Belgium, China, South Korea, Slovenia, Spain, India, Italy, Latvia, the Netherlands and Pakistan.
After pioneering exports to Europe in 2013, Be8 made the country’s first commercial-scale export of biodiesel to the United States earlier this year. The operation was carried out with the registration EPA – Environmental Protection Agency (United States Environmental Protection Agency), which grants an authorization based on the guarantee that the production has been totally segregated and within North American standards. Whoever buys it can sell the product and the equivalent credits for a volume of 12,600 tons, contributing to the decarbonization goals through the D4RIN – Renewable Identification Numbers, decarbonization credits at the federal level.
“The year 2022 also marked the company’s preparation process to obtain certifications that allow it to carry out these exports to the United States. The success of the operation is a recognition of the quality of the product produced in Brazil”, said Battistella.
International presence
Be8 is a company with a presence in two other countries. In Switzerland, it negotiates and operates second-generation biofuels with the production of biodiesel from used cooking oil (UCO). The plant acquired in 2022 strengthens its presence in the country, where the group already had a commercial platform focused mainly on the European market.
In South America, there was the purchase of the La Paloma complex, in Paraguay, for crushing soybeans and producing biodiesel. Also in Paraguay, the Omega Green project continues, which will produce advanced biofuels and serve strategic sectors, such as civil aviation and the chemical and petrochemical industry.
According to Battistella, “in 2023, we will remain focused on our growth in Brazil, in Latin American countries and other regions. We will increasingly be an agent of positive transformation in the energy scenario, engaged in making sustainable deliveries for people, businesses and the planet. Sustainability is a premise in all company interactions”.
