We congratulate the Paraguayan Chamber of Biofuels (Biocap) for achieving an increase in the mandatory percentage of the mixture of biofuels suitable (biodiesel) for use in diesel engines, from 2 to 5%. The target now is to reach 15%, like here in Brazil. Be8 has installed capacity in the country to meet the new mix and we will make new investments to keep up with growth of up to 15%.
The decision is the result of Resolution No. 1,276 of the Minister of Industry and Commerce (MIC) of Paraguay, Javier Giménez, of October 9th.
We produce biodiesel in the country through Be8 La Paloma, acquired in January this year and located in La Paloma del Espíritu Santo, in the Department of Canindeyú. The investment reinforced the group’s commitment to local sustainable development and meeting the growing demand for this biofuel in the region.
The percentage was modified by order from the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, in accordance with the provisions of Law 6,389/19 “which establishes the regime for promoting sustainable production and mandatory use of biofuel suitable for use in diesel engines”. In a statement, the mystery highlighted that the decision “comes after a detailed analysis carried out by the competent authorities, together with the main technical and industrial references in the sector”.
Minister Giménez said that Paraguayan industry is prepared to double production. “We can have cheaper and cleaner biodiesel production”, he indicated. He also highlighted that biofuel is produced from corn oil and soybean oil which, when processed in Paraguay, adds greater value compared to the raw export of raw materials, which represents an important goal for the local portfolio of this company. important production chain.
The president of Biocap, Massimiliano Corsi, celebrated in a statement the MIC’s decision to increase the mixture. According to him, the decision is a response to an old demand from the sector. Likewise, Biocap reported that this announcement has a strong impact in terms of legal security, since compliance with Law 6,389/2019 “strengthens the confidence necessary for the country’s economic growth and the attraction of foreign investments, with the arrival in country of leading companies that, together with local industries, guarantee high quality biofuels”.
According to the Chamber, the local industry has enough installed capacity to supply not only the 5% announced, but even the evolution to 15%, if it is decided to continue with the mixture.
The measure also provides an environmental benefit and facilitates compliance with international agreements such as the Paris Agreement to combat climate change and intensify the actions necessary for a future with low carbon emissions.
